Background:

Floating point DSPs have historically been the technology of choice for signal processing in military applications involving Radar, Sonar, SIGINT and Communications. Todays leading DSP suppliers (TI, ADI, Freescale, PA Semi) have left military designers with little or no roadmap for next generation floating point technology.  At the same time, board form factors are moving from parallel buses to high speed serial interfaces and switch fabrics.  Today's designers are using VXS, VPX, VITA 57 and AdvancedMC FPGA based COTS boards to meet the Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) requires of todays military designs.
