The PSU module is a switching mode power supply module specially designed for rolling stock applications. The design consists of a number of dedicated features for increasing the safety and the reliability of the module and the system that it supplies. The PSU module is specially designed for VMEbus systems. It supports the functionality of the bus by providing the SYSRESET and the ACFAIL signals. This helps the system to shut down in a coordinated manner in abnormal situations.

Controlled in-rush current. The PSU module has a built-in circuitry to detect and control the input current in the event of power-up.

Power Safe function. The module will be shut down gradually in the absence of sufficient input voltage. This feature protects both the unit itself and the supplying circuitry against destructive currents.

Grace Supply function. The PSU module is capable of supplying the +5 VDC output voltage over an input voltage break of 10 ms. If the break lasts longer than 10 ms, the module initiates the Grace Supply function.

At the beginning of the grace supply po- werdown procedure, the module activates the ACFAIL signal and, after 180 ms power-down time, it will be shut down. On shutdown the module activates the SYSRESET signal. The shutdown function has a built-in  detection hysteresis to prevent oscillation due to a start-up before a sufficient level of the input voltage.

The ACFAIL signal is isolated,and can be connected to the NMI input of the CPU boards (or ACFAIL-signal of VMEbus). The SYSRESET signal is active whenever the +5 VDC output voltage is not within the specified range.
