The LVB module of the Coach Computer provides the TCN Real Time Protocols (located on the CPU module) with all the necessary link layer functions for accessing two LONWORKS® networks as vehicle bus.
The LVB module is realised through a highly efficient combination of a dedicated microprocessor and FPGA logic in addition to two Echelon’s Neuron® chips. The bus interface is implemented by two Echelon’s FT–X1 transceivers. The sub D-9 type cable connectors for the LONWORKS ® network interfaces are located at the front of the module, while communication to the CPU module is via the VME back plane bus.
Properties and Interfaces
LONWORKS® networks interface. The Neuron chips connect to the local host processor with the MIP interface. Network management is based on static management of the network configuration. The service pin is implemented by software and it can be directly controlled by the Gateway CPU.
The module has two LONWORKS® network connectors at the front; one 9-pin sub-miniature D-type connector for each independent interface.
VMEbus interface. The module has static RAM accessible from both the local CPU and the VMEbus interface. In addition to network data, a separate memory area is reserved for message data and maintenance messages as well for remote procedure call type access to the link layer primitives.
