The DIO module is an intelligent digital I/O interface module, which can be located in the Coach Computer or distributed within the coach. The module has its own 8-bit embedded processor and a serial bus interface.

The module’s 18 digital I/O channels are grouped into three groups. Each group has 4 input channels and 2 output channels,

and its own voltage and return signals.

Three of the input channels, one channel in each group, have a special high-speed feature, which may be used for pulse counting or frequency input.

The module’s embedded microprocessor controls the inputs and outputs. Each input channel has a parameter for filtering and each output channel has a parameter for update frequency. The values of these

Properties and Interfaces

I/O filtering. The filter value of each I/O channel is user-configurable between 10 ms and 2,5s (parameter value 1...255).

The default value is 10 ms. The maximum frequency of high-speed inputs is limited to 1,5 kHz (fixed).

Output short circuit protection. If the output current exceeds its maximum value, the Short Circuit Protection shuts down the output. This shut-down-state prevails until the I/O group is switched off. The status of the Short Circuit Protection is visible from the I/O Bus (I/O-status register).

I/O indicators. The DIO module has a Status LED indicator for each input channel.

Self diagnostics. The module has a Self Test Function for inputs. Each input channel has an individual test circuit, which is used for real-time diagnostics of the channel. This test is carried out during power-on and repeated during normal operation.

The status of input testing is visible from I/O Bus (I/O-status register).

Additionally the module has normal poweron self-tests for memories.

I/O connections. The module has two configurations, one configuration for I/O connections at rear, and the other for I/O connections at front. Both configurations have similar I/O functionality, but the front confi-guration doesn’t have the module status indicator or the I/O indicator LEDs.

parameters can be changed via the Test Interface. For the Coach Computer the module has an SDLC-type serial bus interface.
