Several accessories are available to assist with system development and integration. All these accessories are included in the Prometheus development kits.
| Panel I/O Board |
| The PNL-Z32 panel I/O board provides a unique cable-free means of
enabling access to all the I/O on the Prometheus CPU. This board plugs
directly onto the top of the CPU board and connects to the system I/O, USB,
Ethernet, Data Acquisition, and Power connectors. This board provides
significant cost and space savings and reduced assembly time over the use of
cables. In addition the elimination of cables greatly improves ruggedness
and reliability. The board is available both with and without connectors for
the data acquisition circuitry on Prometheus.
The PNL-Z32 is also designed to work with Diamond Systems' Pandora(tm) enclosure system. It mounts directly to the front plate of the enclosure, providing a slim, rugged, easy-to-handle assembly. The board converts the pin headers on Prometheus to the industry-standard I/O connectors and provides connection for the following:
|
|
|
The panel board includes a miniature PC speaker. A pin header is
provided to allow switching between this speaker and a user-supplied speaker
if desired. This pin header also provides control for keyboard/mouse
lockout.
A pass-through DB-15 high density connector is provided for optional use with a 3rd-party VGA board. This pass through connector requires a short cable (included with the panel board), since the source is not the CPU board. The connector is compatible with the 10-pin headers provided on most popular PC/104 VGA boards. The panel board includes momentary switches for reset, ATX power control, and ZFix failsafe boot operation. These switches are reached behind small access holes on the front panel of the Pandora enclosure to prevent accidental operation. Also included are IDE drive and power indicator LEDs. Input power to the system may be provided via either of two input connectors. A 2.5mm circular jack is used for 5VDC input when used with an AC/DC wall adapter (available from Diamond Systems). Prometheus, like most PC/104 boards, requires only +5VDC input. A DB-9M connector is also provided for applications where multiple input voltages are required in the system. The connector has pins for +/-5V and +/-12V. It also includes a pin for external power control, so the power can be turned on and off remotely. The 9-pin power connector is also used for mobile and other applications when +5VDC is not available, and an internal DC/DC power supply such as Diamond Systems' Jupiter-MM is used to convert the available input voltage to +5V. A second auxiliary cable is provided for this type of configuration. This 2-conductor cable connects from the panel board to the input power screw terminals on the Jupiter-MM board. The output power from Jupiter -MM then feeds into the CPU through the PC/104 bus connectors.

| FlashDisk Module |
|
The FlashDisk module provides 32MB to 512MB of solid state memory that looks like a C drive to any operating system. No additional software or configuration is needed to use the FlashDisk module. The module mounts directly on the Prometheus CPU and sits on the IDE connector. A mounting tab and hardware retain the module securely on the board. |
| FlashDisk Programming / IDE Extender Board |
|
The ACC-IDEEXT FlashDisk / IDE extender board can be used to connect both the FlashDisk module and another IDE drive (such as a CD-ROM or notebook drive) to Prometheus. The main purpose for this programming board is to enable file transfer between the FlashDisk module and another drive during application development or system configuration. It can also be used to enable simultaneous operation of two drives with Prometheus.
A 44-pin cable runs from the IDE (primary channel) connector on Prometheus to the extender board, and then the FlashDisk module mounts on the extender board. You can attach additional drives to the IDE expansion connectors on the programming board. Both 44-pin and 40-pin connectors are provided to satisfy both connection standards. A maximum of 2 drives can be connected simultaneously using Master / Slave configuration.
Power for a 44-pin device is provided on the 44-pin ribbon cable. Power for a 40-pin device is provide through an auxiliary power cable that is provided with the kit and connects to the power out connector on Prometheus or the power connector on the programming board.
Both 44-pin and 40-pin ribbon cables are included with the IDE extender board.
| Prometheus Cable Kit |
The cable kit (C-PRZ-KIT) includes 9 cables for connection to all the I/O points on Prometheus. These cables are intended for use in applications where the Prometheus panel I/O board cannot be used, such as special enclosures requiring custom I/O connector layout. These cables convert from the pin headers on Prometheus to industry-standard connectors. Most connectors are directly panel-mountable.

Includes:
|
The breakout cable includes connections for 4 serial ports, the parallel port, keyboard, mouse, reset, power switch, LEDs, speaker, and watchdog timer. All I/O connectors are panel-mountable. The LEDs and power/reset switches are not included; instead pin headers are provide for connection to these devices.
An auxiliary serial port cable provides a low-cost means to access COM1 and COM2 in applications where a minimal set of I/O is needed and the larger, complete breakout cable is not required. This cable provides RX, TX, and Ground on two DB-9M connectors.
The USB cable provides two Type A USB connectors in a housing that is also panel-mountable.
The data acquisition cable is a standard 50-pin ribbon cable that can be used as needed.
The input power cable provides 9 discrete wires with stripped/tinned leads for connection to a power supply. The wires are color-coded to avoid accidental wiring errors.
The output power cable provides industry-standard power connectors in both full-size and miniature format for connection to IDE drives and floppy drives.
IDE drive and floppy drive cables are also provided. Each cable will connect to two drives. The connector spacing on the IDE cable is designed so that for applications where a notebook hard drive is installed with the Prometheus board inside the Pandora enclosure, one end of the IDE cable may be cut off for compactness.
| AC Wall Adapter |
|
An AC adapter is available for use with the Panel I/O board in office environment applications. This unit provides +5VDC at 2.0A (10 Watts), enough for the CPU, a VGA board, a notebook hard drive, and usually one additional PC/104 add-on board. Higher-power adapters are available as special order. |
| Notebook Hard Drive Mounting Board |
|
The ACC-HDDMOUNT accessory board can be used to conveniently mount a
notebook hard drive right on your PC/104 stack. The hard drive bolts onto
the accessory board, then the assembly mounts on the stack using the
hardware provided. A 44-pin ribbon cable (included with the C-PRZ-KIT cable
kit) connects the hard drive to the Prometheus CPU. The design of the ACC-HDDMOUNT
enables it to occupy "zero space" inside the 1.7" and 3.0" Pandora
enclosures by fitting in the space between the bottom PC/104 board and the
case bottom.
